Victor, One thing to consider if you didn't lay your steps yet is what temperature zone do you live in? Is their moisture from the roof line; (i.e. Do you have gutter problems?) If blue stone and/ or granite is constantly damp or wet it will grow mold spores and become slippery. Over time with mold it might create moss which in my opinion is gorgeous look but not a great idea for steps. Lay an artificial concrete slap which looks like blue stone it will have a rougher surface for traction. Use blue stone as your risers. You can even leave a few areas between joints and install mini fern with moss.

Bluestone or Granite for a Step by: Anonymous
Here in Northwest Ct (high elevation, lots of cold and snow) granite is frequently the material of choice for steps. Slabs or solid blocks - it's beautiful and durable. Comes either rough sided or polished/cut. Curbs are made of granite. And driveway or sidewalk edges of granite cobbles. All beautiful and 'forever' stone elements in your landscape.
